With McClafferty Funeral Directors there is no such thing as a standard arrangement. We work with you to customise and personalise every detail to your exacting requirements. Our experienced and professional staff will help guide you through each step of the planning process discussing all your expectations such as funeral costs, floral arrangements, funeral vehicles, and coffin selection, every detail will be fine-tuned. We liaise with all medical staff, clergy, cemeteries, and crematoria as and when required. 1904
September 2, 1904Mr. John L. McClafferty established McClafferty Funeral Directors in King Street in the Waterside, Derry in 1904. He and his family ran the business until 1974. The image shows McClafferty Funeral Directors funeral home all those years ago.
1974
March 14, 1974In 1974 Mr. Jack McKeone took ownership of McClafferty Funeral Directors whilst situated at Meenan Square in the Bogside. He continued to run the business for the next 13 years.
1987
February 17, 1987Ownership then passed to Mr. John Casey in 1987 who remained at the helm alongside his family for 32 years. The image shows Mr. John Casey directing a funeral in 2014 with a horse-drawn carriage in procession on the Brandywell Road clearly showing the old Brandywell Stadium in the background recently renamed the Ryan McBride Brandywell Stadium.

March 8, 2019In March 2019 our new owner and proprietor Mr. Kieran Connor took the reigns of McClafferty Funeral Directors and has devoted himself to providing an authentic, personal & caring service to the families of Derry and beyond in their time of need.

Carmel Mulrine

We regret to inform you that the death has taken place of Carmel Mulrine, peacefully at Altnagelvin hospital on 10th March 2024.
Formerly of Killavney, Augher, Co. Tyrone. May she rest in peace.
Beloved wife of Jim O’Neill. Inspirational and much loved mother of Gráinne and Maeve. Loving nana of Darragh and Naia. Dearest sister of Sean, Una, Phelim, P.J, Gabriel and Trishie. Always remembered and sadly missed by all of her wider family circle and friends.
An intrepid adventurer, community worker, visionary, passionate and creative innovator, social justice mover and shaker. Always ready to stand up, speak out, repurpose, debate, play, push boundaries, learn, listen to and tell stories. She was a force for kindness, a force of nature, a force to be reckoned with and loved by all.
Carmel will be reposing at her home, 62 Hatmore Park from 7pm this evening, Monday 11th March. Funeral leaving from there on Thursday 14th March at 9:20am for 10am Requiem Mass in St. Eugene’s Cathedral. Burial will take place immediately afterwards in the City Cemetery.
Everyone attending the wake and funeral is invited to wear bright colours at Carmel’s request.

Bridget Cooley née McCallion
Date of death: 11-03-2024
We regret to inform you that the death has taken place of Bridget Cooley née McCallion, peacefully at home on 11th March 2024.
Late of 15 Beechwood Street. May she rest in peace.
Beloved wife of the late Jackie. Devoted mother of Mary, Theresa, Eddie, John, Paul, Cieran and Donna. Dearest mother-in-law of Mary, Geraldine, Angela, Susanne, Brian and the late Danny. A much loved granny and great-granny to all of her loving grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Deeply regretted and sadly missed by all of her wider family circle, friends and neighbours.
Bridget’s remains will be reposing at her daughter Theresa’s residence, 11 Springham Park from 3pm this afternoon, Monday 11th March. Funeral leaving from there on Wednesday 13th March at 10:50am for 11:30am Requiem Mass in St. Columba’s Church, Longtower. Burial will take place immediately afterwards in the City Cemetery.

George Duffy
Date of death: 25-02-2024
We regret to inform you that the death has taken place of George Duffy, peacefully at Altnagelvin Hospital on 25th February 2024.
May he rest in peace.
Beloved son of the late George and Bridget. Loving brother of Paddy, Danny, Patricia (Tishey) and the late Tommy. Deeply regretted, sadly missed and loved by all of his family and friends.
George’s remains will be reposing at his brother Danny’s residence, 76 Chapel Rd from 1:30pm tomorrow, Tuesday 27th February. Funeral leaving from there on Thursday 29th February at 9:30am for 10am Requiem Mass in St. Columb’s Church, Chapel Rd. Burial will take place immediately afterwards in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Ardmore.
